Q

How to Treat Duengue Fever?

Hey KJ, how are you?

I was thinking of you because I have a patient who contracted Duengue fever. She has been bleeding (spotting), has had mania, red tongue with phlegm, feeling feverish, has not been sleeping or eating. She also had like an absess or something around ren 10-12, her pulse in the stomach was hard, the kidney pulse was a bit crazy and weak and the heart pulse was weak. I gave her acupuncture treatment. She slept and felt better.

I really want to think about Shang-Hun stuff, and I was wondering if we could come down to jersey and get an appointment for her together to get your opinion and I will take it from there.

Hi Frank,

You have a tough case. Duengue Fever is an epidemic disease. It's clinic characteristics are: sunden fever, muscle ache, bone and joints pain, and skin papulas or some bleeding, along with enlarged lymph nodes and decreases in white blood cell counts.

TCM treatment of this disease is based on Wen Bing /Warm Disease Theory. The clinic pattern can be Wei-Qi togather, Evil Qi linger in middle Jiao, qi and blood both ablaze, blood stasis and heat toxicity binding togather. For some severe cases, it can be heat in the paricardial and liver wind. Anyway, the differentiation of Wei-Qi-Ying-Xue is more suitable for Duengue. Shang-Hang Lun is based on cold damage theory with six channel differentiation.

The treatment you have given seems on the right track as you worked on Middle Jiao and Heart.

It will be fine if you bring the patient to my clinic and discuss furthermore.

Best regards

- K.J.
