TCM for Infertility
One of our patients
was married for three years without child. In 2004, at her thirties,
she decided to see an infertility specialist. After many exams,
the doctor told her that the problem was her egg deterioration because
age. The doctor told her that she would have more than 60% chance
of success if she took IVF immediately. The high cost of IVF made
her and her husband hesitated for a while. Few months later, after
qualified by a financial assistant program, they decided to go ahead.
The result of
the first cycle was not encouraging. Her FSH was 8.13 and E2 was
41.1. Eight eggs were retrieved, but only one was fertilized. The
doctor told her that because of the few months delay, her egg quality
deteriorated even further and the success rate of the next cycle
wouldn’t be high either. Even worse, the finance program dropped
them because of the high possibility of failure for the second cycle.
She came to
our clinic right after. After three months of acupuncture and Chinese
herbal medicine treatment, she had her second IVF. This time, her
Day3 FSH was 8.62, and E2 was less than 20, quite improved since
last time. 11 eggs were retrieved; three of them were fertilized.
Two of them showed good quality by lab test. Unfortunately, she
caught flu right after the transfer. Although her first-day pregnancy
test was positive, her HCG number was low. She miscarried eventually.
In the meeting
with her infertility doctor, she was encouraged to continue the
treatment by K.J. Clinic. After treated another two months, she
went for her third IVF. This time, her Day3 FSH was 7.34 with E2
less than 20. 13 eggs were retrieved and 5 of them were fertilized
successfully.
Today, she is
a proud mom of a 4-month beautiful girl.
